A message from ZoneAlarm ….
On Tuesday, Microsoft rolled out an automatic update to all
of their users. Unfortunately, this cut off Internet access for anyone on
Windows XP or Windows 2000 using the ZoneAlarm firewall. This is the #1
free firewall in the world, and is also included in other security products
sold by ZoneAlarm.
For ways to fix this, go here: http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/free/pressReleases/2008/LossOfInternetAccessIssue.html
Or call Customer Service here: 1-877-966-5221
When someone logs onto the Internet, it is typically because they have a need and they want that need fulfilled, they may be looking for an answer to a question, or trying to figure out how to do something, or maybe they just need a new pair of shoes.

I trusted Microsoft's Security downloads with I receive automatically. Never again.
Microsoft made this mess & they are responsible for correcting this download KB951748.
I didn't want to subscribe to ZoneAlarm for a 15 day free trial or purchase. I already have other security.
Microsoft introduced a 3rd party, which didn't allow me to go into one of my email INBOXES or navigate the Internet. It also restricted some sites that I need for medical research, stating "has been blocked since it contains offensive materials". The same for one of my INBOXES.
I've have spent too much time trying to resolve this problem.
My next step is to try the ZoneAlarm down fix. If that doesn't work, I'll try using the Microsoft patch MS08-037 or try to reinstall KB951748, for it can't be removed from my download, it was not a HOTFIX.
Wish me luck. I'm real tired messing with this one download. Shame on Microsoft.

Well, I thought I couldn't access the internet because my computer was broken and I went out and bought myself a new one. I had no way to access ZA's web site to discover that there was a way to fix it. I now have a new Lap Top with Vista. Is this problem going to occur again with ZoneAlarm? Should I switch to McAffee or go with another company to avoid any more problems? My current ZA subcription is good for another six months, but if it's going to cause problems on my new computer, I don't want to download it!!!

Who else had both of these issues? After the MS patch KB951748, not only did I have the usual internet disconnect issue, but also had an issue with the Antivirus becomming disabled! I played around and was able to get the Antivirus working again. For now, I don't use my laptop too often until I get my router professionally hooked up at my own home, as required by an IT for work related privacy issues. In other words, I haven't used my laptop for some time; now I'm back on the internet working fine, Antivirus still working fine. I still chose the following steps provided by ZoneAlarm: Go to 'OVERVIEW' in the suite (the top column), go to the PRODUCT INFO tab, the go down and click on "click here" next to tech support, under the SUPPORT and UPDATE INFORMATION. It brought up the webpage for ZoneAlarm showing the patch issue and instructs to click here (in the yellow area) at the top of the page, bringing up another page where I clicked on my product (ZoneAlarm I.S.S.). It gave the option to install the updated version which is supposed to cure the internet connection problem. I installed it, then attempted to go to the next step: Start, Windows Update, reinstall security update KB951748. There is no option on Windows Update to reinstall, only to delete it using the ADD and Remove feature to uninstall it, and apparently to reinstall it. But after reviewing the forums, there were several complaints of people uninstalling this hotfix then having issues with there operating system. Anyone have the answer to this one? Frustrated that between ZoneAlarm and Microsoft, that there's not better support for this issue that I'm aware of. Also, does anyone have any luck updating their current verion of the ISS to the latest version?

Why to download 40 MB (the whole ZA) for one small update ? Please change the update way like other software update products.

I keep getting a request from ZoneAlarm to download an update to overcome the recent Windows security update that wiped out internet access (which cost me money to sort). However, although I click on it every time, nothing happens. Can you please sort this?

Why am I still prompted to upload the new verstion every couple of days though the upgrade has been done ?

The Update to 7.0.462.000 doesn't solve the problem.
Plus now ZA keeps telling me every day, I should download 7.0.462.000 again though this version is already running.

Zone Alarm first told me that my subscription had expired and wanted me to buy another. Somehow stumbled across the "alert" about the Microsoft Update just before sending over my money. I too would be interested as to who screwed up, MS or ZA.

Based on info from son in US yesterday, I removed the MS security fix - internet ok.
Went to ZA site and downloaded ZA 70-362-000 and ran installation wizard on top of previous version - no internet again!
After coms with ZA, advised to uninstall ZA and try again.
Uninstalled 70-362-000 - internet ok.
Installed again - internet ok
Installed MS secutity fix - internet ok.
End of fraught weekend!!

Translation from Italian to Google
Even in the English version the problem persists, and continually asks me to do the upgrade by downloading the same file: zlsSetup_70_362_000_it - how to resolve? Often the page updated by mistake, perhaps too many users connected. When is the best version to solve this problem? Thank you
Testo originale in italiano
Grazie

uhm... does anybody from ZA notice that the problem is still there?

Somebody at ZA had better take another look at the update, and or take a look at the users forum because this thing is causing major problems for many people.
I for am totaly confused. When I tried to install the update it told me it couldn't. I had to turn off "true vectors" ( never had to do that with an update before) Now that I turn of tv, i've lost the ZA ttay icon, the program is not even listed in my "add/delete" function anymore. Can't get ZA to run any which way.
I've been dealing with this all weekend and today and I'm just about ready to say to hell with ZA after all these years and try something else.
Come on, step up to the plate and help us!!

I put some specific helpful instructions on my blog. :)
Posted by: Susie | July 12, 2008 at 07:37 AM
I have ZA basic firewall with version 7.0.473.000 installed and the fix has version no. 7.0.462.000. I'm urged to deinstall my newer version and loss my settings. That's not what an update should do.

Would be interested to know who was to blame for this, MS or ZA? But anyway thanks for working quickly to provide an update.

Hi ZoneAlarm,
Thank you for the very useful link. I've been looking for it for quite some times and finally found it here.
Cheers
